Did God Allow Noah To Eat Meat?

The passage of Genesis 9:2-4 was the subject of great debate and controversy. After years of study and research and virtually leaving no stone unturned on the subject, to date I have not read a commentary on the passage which is worthy of a serious consideration. Generally it is argued that here we have the first biblical passage where God explicitly told Noah that he may kill any animal he wanted to in order to eat its flesh. Even vegetarians who abhor meat eating and who practice vegetarianism on ethical grounds admit that here we are faced with a biblical text which clearly sanctions the killing of animals and eating of their flesh. All they can say is that due to the fallen and corrupt nature of humanity God gave a “concession” concerning meat diet but it was not His ideal as in Genesis 1:30 where God ideally prescribed a completely vegetarian diet. But nothing can be further from the truth.

Did Jesus Eat Fish?

There is only one passage in the whole of the New Testament where it is explicitly and specifically said that Jesus actually ate meat. If this text is true and genuine and in fact inspired by the Holy Spirit, then it would follow that Jesus was not and could not have been a vegetarian. But if on the other hand it can be satisfactorily demonstrated that this passage in Luke 24 is actually a forgery, then it follows that Jesus must have been a vegetarian, since a lying hand felt a need to insert a lying passage in order to portray Jesus as a carnivorous being.

Christians point to Jesus as the one who instituted the New Covenant with HIS OWN BLOOD. They point to the cup he shared with his disciples on the night of his arrest. This cup allegedly contained GRAPE JUICE or FERMENTED WINE as a symbol of his BLOOD. Roman Catholics and Lutherans claim that it was actually the REAL AND LITERAL BLOOD OF Jesus. He supposedly instructed his disciples to drink the wine which represented his SHED BLOOD which was shed for the FORGIVENESS OF SINS and the establishment of the New Covenant. But it will be documented now that these texts in our canonical gospels do not preserve true facts of that event. The Evangel Ebionites used give us altogether different picture.

When we realise what is claimed there and the fact that JAMES, the BROTHER OF JESUS was also present there and actually DRANK FROM THE CUP it becomes plain that the cup COULD NOT HAVE CONTAINED WINE or anything that comes from the vine. Please note the following quote from the original Evangel of Matthew:

“Now when Rabboni had given his linen garment to the priest’s assistant, HE WENT TO JAMES AND APPEARED TO HIM. For James had vowed THAT HE WOULD NOT EAT BREAD FROM THAT HOUR WHEN HE HAD DRUNK THE CUP OF RABBONI UNTIL HE SAW HIM RISING FROM THE DEAD...Bring a table and bread, said Rabboni. He took bread and gave thanks and broke it, and thereafter he gave it to James the Just and said to him: My brother eat your bread, because the Son of Man has risen from those who sleep.”

This text, often referred to by the Christian Church Fathers, verifies the fact that James the Just was present the night Jesus was arrested. Moreover, it testifies that he DRANK FROM THE CUP JESUS OFFERED TO HIS DISCIPLES. It also reveals the tremendous confidence he must have had in the messiahship of his brother. For he vowed not to eat bread at all until he actually sees Jesus ALIVE. In the canonical Gospel of John  - James is portrayed as an UNBELIEVER who did not accept the claims of Jesus. Dr. Whyte in his book Saul called Paul degrades James. He insists that for 33 years James could not bring himself to accept the messiahship of his brother. He claims that James became a believer only after Jesus eventually appeared to him after his resurrection. Because of this act alone - so it is claimed - James actually became a follower of Jesus. This however does not agree with the text quoted from the original Matthew. It does not even agree with the general reputation James enjoyed among the Church Fathers. They all testified that James was extraordinary righteous - hence his epithet “THE JUST.”

They believed that he was CONSECRATED FROM HIS MOTHER’S WOMB. Once we realise the fact that James was present with Jesus and his other disciples the night his brother was arrested and especially that he actually DRANK FROM THE CUP, we must then conclude that the content of the cup could not have included any product of the VINE. Neither can we believe that James actually ATE THE PASSOVER LAMB. The Church Fathers testify that James the Just was a life-long Nazarite who neither tasted flesh nor wine.Hegesepius who wrote in the fourth century stated:

“James the brother of the Lord surnamed the Just was made head of the Church at Jerusalem. Many indeed are called James. THIS ONE WAS HOLY FROM HIS MOTHER’S WOMB. HE DRANK NEITHER WINE NOR STRONG DRINK, ATE NO FLESH, never shaved” [The Nicene and Post Nicene Fathers, Vol. 3. p. 361].

Eusebius of the 4th century wrote in regards to James the following:

“This apostle CONSECRATED FROM HIS MOTHER’S WOMB. HE DRANK NEITHER WINE NOR FERMENTED LIQUORS, AND ABSTAINED FROM ANIMAL FOOD. A razor never came upon his head” [Eusebius’s Ecclesiastical History, p. 76].

St. Augustine wrote:

“St. James NEVER ATE ANIMAL FOOD, living on seeds and vegetables, NEVER TASTING FLESH OR WINE [Ecclesiastical History, 2 Vols. Translated by H.J. Lawlor and J.E.L. Oulton].

Since James NEVER TASTED FLESH and NEVER DRANK WINE he could not have eaten the so called Passover lamb or drank any vine produce. But since the original Matthew claims that James actually DRANK FROM THE CUP what, then, could have been its content? The answer is found in the treatise of Church Father Epiphanius in which he condemns the Ebionite practice in regards to the so called Lord’s Supper. Please note the following statement of Epiphanius:

“...they have a baptism of initiation and each year they celebrate certain mysteries in imitation of the Church of the Christians. In these mysteries they use unleavened bread and, for the other part, PURE WATER [Panarion XXX, 16.].

Catholic Cardinal Jean Danilou in reference to this text of Epiphanius states:

“The reference to mysteries is evidently concerned with the Eucharist, and one detail in particular should be noticed, THE EXCLUSION OF THE WINE” [The Theology of the Jewish Christianity, p. 57].

Jesus offered WATER in the cup to his disciples. His covenant was based on WATER and not blood. The remission of sins is based on WATER not blood. The WATER BAPTISM washes and purifies the sinner. John administered baptism in WATER for the REMISSION OF SINS [Mark 1:4; Luke 3:3]. Peter told the Jews that only in water baptism [not blood] could they find the REMISSION of sins [Acts 2:38]. Collier’s Dictionary thus defines the word remission:

“release from penalty or guilt; pardon; cancellation, as of a debt.”

The Ebionites taught that BAPTISM, that is, WATER washed away the sins and NOT the blood of the sacrificial victim. Water is LIFE. Without WATER there is NO LIFE. The BLOOD itself DEPENDS on WATER. The life of the blood is actually WATER - the BLOOD PLASMA. Not all animals have blood in their bodies. But those animals utilise the  WATER in the same way we utilise the blood. Please notice the following statement in Collier’s Encyclopedia, Vol. 4. art. Blood, p. 263:

“The very simplest multicelled animals, such as sponges, anemones, and jellyfishes, live directly in the sea, and, for the most part, THE SEA SERVES AS THEIR BLOOD. It bathes them completely, bringing them nutrients and carrying their wastes away...The terrestrial animals, of course, do not have any sea around them  at all. Complex creatures, therefore, HAVE HAD TO DEVELOP A HIGHLY SPECIALIZED INTERNAL OCEAN, the blood.” On page 264 we read: Plasma.  The fluid component of the blood is a complex AQUEOUS [water based] solution...The PLASMA is involved in dozens of life functions. It is the vehicle for the blood cells. It serves as a medium for the transportation of nutrients and the products of metabolism. It maintains direct and extremely important relationship with all the body’s extravascular fluids, that is, those outside the blood vessels. These include not only the extracellular fluids, but also, through them, the intracellular constituents of the body as well. Plasma thus has contact with kidneys, liver, and other organs, aiding in maintaining the body’s internal environment in a state of balance, or homeostasis”.

The Funk and Wagnalls Encyclopedia, Vol. 4. 157 & 158 states:

“A great portion of the blood is composed OF WATER, a medium that facilitates the circulation of the many indispensable factors of which blood is composed...Plasma is a complex substance; ITS PRINCIPAL COMPONENT IS WATER. It also contains plasma proteins; such inorganic constituents as sodium, potassium, calcium chloride, carbonate, and bi-carbonate; sugar, hormones, enzymes, fats, amino acids, and such waste products as urea and creatine. All these substances occur in minute quantities.”

You must realise one fact. There is no life without WATER. Life indeed depends on BLOOD. Life is indeed in the BLOOD. But this life in the BLOOD is actually WATER. Without water there can be no blood. Before blood was ever in existence WATER WAS THERE. Without water there can be no plasma and that means that no nutrients on which our body cells depend can be transported. Red and white cells cannot perform their function without plasma. No vitamins can be distributed to our body cells without plasma. Water therefore is the most important element which sustains life.  Is it any wonder then that Jesus used WATER in order to reestablish the COVENANT? Is it any wonder that WATER and no other liquid is used for baptism? A repentant sinner is PLUNGED into the water. His sins ARE WASHED AWAY BY ITS PURITY and he is a new born man, free from stain. His old life is WASHED CLEAN.

Try to plunge yourself into the blood. Will you be washed clean or will you be stained with blood? All life depends on water but all life does not depend on blood. It is clear therefore that new life also depends on WATER. The Israelites were WASHED IN THE WAVES OF THE SEA as Paul himself admits. The pagans of antiquity recognised the power of water. Originally WATER and not BLOOD was recognised as the means of SIN CLEANSING. The sacrificial victim itself was cleansed in the waves of the Sea. Only later did pagan man rely on blood of the sacrificial victim. Willoughby in his book Pagan Regeneration on p. 45 states:

“On the day following the assembly came the cry, “To the sea, O Mystae!” and the candidates for initiation ran down to the sea, there to purify themselves in its salt waves...”Sea waves wash away all sin”, said Euripides...Each of the mystae carried with him a sucking pig which he PURIFIED BY IMMERSION IN THE WATERS OF THE SEA. Later the pig was sacrificed and its blood sprinkled on the candidate.”

The Babylonians also believed in the BAPTISMAL REGENERATION. When Cortez and his warriors entered Mexico the Catholic missionaries were astonished to witness water baptism among the pagan Mexicans. The rite is thus described in Prescott’s Conquest of Mexico:

“When everything necessary for the baptism had been made ready, all the relations of the child were assembled, and the midwife, who was the person that performed the rite of baptism, was summoned. At early dawn, they met together in the court-yard of the house. When the sun had risen, the midwife, taking the child in her arms, called for a little earthen vessel of water, while those about her placed the ornaments, which had been prepared for baptism, in the midst of the court. To perform the rite of baptism, she placed herself with the face toward the west, and immediately began to go through certain ceremonies...After this she sprinkled water on the head of the infant, saying, ‘O my child, take and receive the water of the Lord of the world, WHICH IS OUR LIFE, which is given for the increasing and renewing of our body. IT IS TO WASH AND TO PURIFY. I pray that these heavenly drops may enter into your body, and dwell there; that they may destroy and remove from you all evil and sin WHICH WAS GIVEN YOU BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF THE WORLD, since all of us are under its power’...She then washed the body of the child with water, and spoke in this manner: Whensoever thou comest, thou that art hurtful to this child, leave him and depart from him, for he now LIVETH ANEW, and is BORN ANEW; now he is purified and is cleansed anew” [Vol. 3. pp. 339-340].

Pagan Mexicans knew that water baptism constituted the NEW BIRTH. If you were to speak with Hindus who were never exposed to the Christian doctrine of WATER BAPTISM - you would be astounded to discover that their teaching on baptism is identical to that held by the Christian Church. The Brahmans explicitly claim that they are TWICE BORN [See: Asiatic Researches, Vol. 7. p. 271]. The British Druids - the worshippers of Odin plunged their infants into the river as soon as they were born in order to wash away their sins [See: Anglo Saxon Baptism, Antiquities, Vol. 1. p. 335]. For what purpose do Hindus baptise their converts with water? Why do they regard those so baptised as “born again”? Why do they call the deity whom they recognise as the PRESERVER by the name VISHNU? The answer to these questions may astound you. In Hindu thought VISHNU is none other than the biblical NOAH. Hislop writes:

“In India, the god Vishnu, “the Preserver”, who is celebrated as having miraculously preserved one righteous family at the time when the world was drowned, not only has the story of Noah wrought up with his legend, but is called by his very name. Vishnu is just the Sanscrit form of the Chaldee ‘Ish-Nuh”, “the man Noah”, or the “Man of rest” [Two Babylons, p. 135].

Ish even in Hebrew denotes man. The name Noach is derived from Nuach and means rest. [See: Strong’s Concordance].Wilson points out that the Hebrew-Chaldee word ish that is, man is not only preserved in Vishnu with the digamma but also in other words such as: Vishampati which means: Lord of men. [See: India Three Thousand Years Ago, p. 59]. Noah was regarded as a man who lived in TWO WORLDS - the old and new. He was regarded as he who PRESERVED ALL LIFE. Even in Babylonish mysteries Noah was called by the name of DIPHUES which means: TWICE BORN. Water baptism signifies the drowning of old self which signifies SIN of the OLD WORLD. New birth signifies new life in the NEW WORLD. In the New Testament Noah and the FLOOD WATER is used as an analogy of SALVATION [1 Peter 3:21].The original world was terribly corrupted by the Watchers and their bastard sons who cause all flesh to corrupt their way of life. Thus those who die in baptism did to the principles of the OLD WORLD of WATCHERS and VIOLECNE as described in Genesis 6 and the Book of Enoch. The New World is based on justice and the principles of God’s Law.

The Essenes/Nazarenes/Ebionites believed and taught that this was the REAL FALL and not the FALL OF ADAM - erroneously believed by most of Christendom.  We have seen earlier that the pagan Mexicans baptised their children in order to cleanse them from sin WHICH ORIGINATED BEFORE THE CREATION OF THE WORLD. Now Christians of course baptise their converts in order to purify them from the so called SIN OF ADAM and their own sins. The infants however are specifically baptised in order to cleanse them from the INHERITED SIN OF ADAM. We have seen earlier that the Ebionites explicitly rejected this idea. They rejected the suggestion that Adam actually sinned. Neither did they believe that Adam brought DEATH AND CURSE IN THE WORLD by eating from the forbidden fruit. Surprisingly, the Ebionites believed that SIN AND DEATH was in existence BEFORE THE CREATION OF THIS WORLD. It is even more surprising that this fact is plainly revealed in the Bible itself. Genesis 1:1 states that Elohim originally created the HEAVENS and the EARTH. This took place in the “BEGINNING.” No one exactly knows when this was. In verse two however we are told that the Earth “became” CHAOITIC AND EMPTY - covered with WATER. Please note this verse as translated in the King James Bible:

“And the earth WAS without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”

This text has been erroneously translated in the King James Bible. The correct rendering of the Hebrew text is as follows:

But the Earth BECAME desolate and empty, darkness came to be above the surface of the abyss, and the mighty wind of Elohim hovered above the waters.

The Hebrew word hayah should have been translated BECAME and not WAS. King James translators did correctly render this same Hebrew word as BECAME in Genesis 2:7:

“and the man BECAME [hayah] a living soul.”

In Genesis 2:10 they correctly rendered the word hayah as BECAME:

“And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and BECAME into four heads”.

Genesis 1:2 states that the Earth BECAME tohuw and bohuw. The word tohuw is number #8414 in Strong’s where it is thus defined: “to lie waste; a desolation [of surface], i.e. desert; worthless thing.” Wilson in his New Old Testament Word Studies defines the word tohuw as follows: “wasteness, emptiness, vanity.” The word bohuw is number #922 in Strong’s and is thus defined: “to be empty,  vacuity, indistinguishable ruin.” Genesis 1:1 states that God originally created the HEAVENS and the EARTH in perfect condition. The EARTH however BECAME chaotic and desolate. The water covered its surface. And the DARKNESS ruled over the waters. The word darkness is quite significant in this text. It comes from the Hebrew word choshek - number #2822 in Strong’s and means: “darkness; misery, destruction, death, ignorance, sorrow, wickedness.” Wilson defines it thus:

“to be dark, darkness. Metaph. applied to all kinds of adversity and sorrow; to death; that which is unknown or obscure; to ignorance and error; to unbelief and pursuit of sin; To darken is to obscure right principles and truth by an ignorant representation.”

Before God actually brought order to this chaotic world He had to battle with EVIL FORCES. The great primeval SEA MONSTER with seven heads was the leader of the EVIL FORCES. This monster is called RAHAB in the Bible. Please note the following quote from Who’s Who in the Bible:

“RAHAB is the name given in the Old Testament to a POWERFUL ENEMY OF GOD. In some passages it signifies an AWESOME MONSTER, while in others it denotes one of Israel’s historical enemies. Rahab the monster was a SEA SERPENT OF DEMONIC STRENGTH that God OVERCAME IN BATTLE so that an ORDERLY CREATION could take place. Although Rahab was no ordinary animal, neither was it a match for God, a fact Job emphasized: “By his power he [God] stilled the sea; by his understanding HE SMOTE RAHAB” [Job 26:12]. Some scholars say Rahab is another name for LEVIATHAN, mentioned in Job 3:8 and Job 41:1” [p. 367].

The Oxford Companion to the Bible on pp. 433-434 gives us the following information on Leviathan:

Leviathan.  A MYTHOLOGICAL SEA MONSTER who is one of the PRIMEVAL ADVERSARIES OF THE STORM GOD. In the Ugaritic texts, Baal defeats Lothan [ltn, a linguistic variant of Leviathan], described as a SEVEN HEADED SERPENT, apparently identified with Baal’s adversary Prince Sea. In the Bible Leviathan is also identified with the Sea [Job 3:8] and has MANY HEADS [Ps. 74:14], and HIS DEFEAT BY GOD IS A PRELUDE TO CREATION [Ps. 74:14]”.

In Isaiah 26 we are told that God shall judge all the sinners of the Earth. In 27:1 [King James Bible] we read:

“In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish LEVIATHAN the PIERCING SERPENT, even LEVIATHAN THAT CROOKED SERPENT; and he shall SLAY THE DRAGON THAT IS IN THE SEA.”

The Jerome Biblical Commentary on p. 277 says the following in regards to this text:

“The identical phrase occurs in a Canaanite myth from Ugarit where LOTHAN [Leviathan] is described as the “fleeing serpent” or “primeval serpent”. This and other mythical monsters of ancient Near Eastern literature have become, in the OT, symbols of forces in rebellion against Yahweh”.

Nelson’s New Illustrated Bible Dictionary on p. 1065 under Rahab the Dragon says:

“a MYTHOLOGICAL SEA MONSTER or DRAGON representing the EVIL FORCES OF CHAOS THAT GOD SUBDUED BY HIS CREATIVE POWER. The name Rahab as it occurs in Job 9:13 [NIV], Job 26:12 [NIV], Psalm 87:4 and 89:10, Isaiah 30:7 [NIV], and Isaiah 51:9 has no connection with the personal name of Rahab, the harlot of Jericho, in Joshua 2:1-21. The references to Rahab in the books of Job, Psalms, and Isaiah SPEAK OF AN EVIL POWER OVERCOME BY GOD. God’s smiting of Rahab is described in Job 26:12 [NIV] to signify God’s power over the CHAOS OF PRIMEVAL WATERS at the Creation.”

In 2 Peter 3 the author alludes to this primeval world and chaos. Please note this text:

“They are choosing to forget that there were HEAVENS at the BEGINNING, and that the earth was formed by the word of Elohim out of water and between the waters, so that the COSMOS OF THAT TIME WAS DESTROYED BY WATER. But by the same word, THE PRESENT HEAVEN AND EARTH are reserved for FIRE, and are being kept until Judgment Day so that all sinners may be destroyed” [3:5-7].

You must realise one fact. This text does not speak of the time of Noah. It refers to the world [Greek COSMOS] being destroyed with WATERS at the BEGINNING. The FLOOD WATERS OF THE PRIMEVAL TIMES destroyed the SKY and left the Earth in CHAOS AND DESOLATION. The waters deposited various fossils of that world. The Deluge of Noah’s days did not destroy the HEAVEN nor was the COSMOS left in chaos. The Earth and Heaven of Noah’s time are the same present Earth and Heaven which will be set on fire on the Judgment Day. The PREVIOUS EARTH AND HEAVEN were DESTROYED BY WATERS and COSMOS was left in RUIN and CHAOS. After defeating the PRIMEVAL EVIL FORCES God restored our Solar System in six days. He set Adam in charge of this new world. Many assume that Adam was immortal and the world was PERFECT until he supposedly rebelled against God and brought DEATH AND DECAY in this world.

But those who believe this are simply mistaken. There was DEATH AND DECAY in PROGRESS from the instant of creation. This is not hard to prove. The leaves of the fruit trees were falling. The fruits themselves would have decomposed if left for a prolonged period. The food eaten by man and animals was DIGESTED and the waste and toxins removed. None of these could have occurred if there was no BACTERIA and GERMS in existence. For bacteria plays a vital part in this world. It causes things to decompose so that essential nutrients are supplied to the soil. If there was no bacteria then this world would become a heap of rubbish - piling to a huge mountain, thus killing and destroying life on this planet. From the very beginning Yahweh created humankind, animals, birds...and all INSECTS and CRAWLING THINGS in order to maintain balance on this planet. Thus it is very wrong to assume that death and decay was introduced only after Adam supposedly sinned against God. Sin, curse and decay existed before Adam was even created.

He was put on this Earth in order to develop perfect righteous character so that he might rightly rule this planet. If there was no evil in this world at the time Adam was created than he could have never really developed righteous character. Righteousness comes through rejection of wrong and performance of right. If there was no evil in this world then we would never know what is really right. If there was no sorrow then we could not really know what joy is. On this planet there is a law of two opposites: cold and hot, male and female, right and wrong, daylight and darkness, joy and sorrow…In fact, you cannot even think of one thing without immediately becoming aware of its opposite. This is not only true of this world but also of heaven and the whole universe. These opposites did not come into existence after Adam supposedly sinned but they were part of nature from the very start. Did you realise that God only created light on the first day of creation? He did not create darkness. Darkness was already there. But before Adam was created DARKNES and LIGHT, DAY and NIGHT already existed. God did not even create water on any of the six days. Water was already there covering the chaotic Earth.

He did not even create the Earth on any of the six days. The Earth was already in existence but submerged under water. He merely caused the water on the surface of the Earth to be gathered to one place. By doing so He restored the dry Earth. So then before Adam supposedly sinned there was already DRY and WET ground. There was SLEEP and being AWAKE.  Only after God completely destroys the primordial monster and all perverts on this Earth will these opposites cease to be a part of nature. Only after He establishes His eternal kingdom will the bad opposites disappear from existence. In the meantime these opposites are essential so that we may built a righteous and perfect character. If we did not know what evil was we could never know what is right. If we did not know what sorrow was we could not know what is joy. And if we did not know the misery of death we could not appreciate life. The Yahwist source clearly says that Adam was PUT TO SLEEP [Hebrew, DEEP COMA] while God was operating on him and removing the rib and flesh from his side and afterwards sowing the wound. If there was no PAIN in EXISTENCE before Adam allegedly sinned and brought pain through God’s curse - why then did God use the anaesthetic to prevent pain? And if Adam did not get tired before his alleged fall, why then did he sleep at all?  There is yet another way in which it can be proven that eternal life does not depend on the sacrifice of Jesus.

Christians of course insist that no one can be saved without first accepting the sacrifice of Jesus. They insist that the only way to the Father and therefore to eternal life is through the blood of Jesus. The Ebionites of course did not believe this. They insisted that from the very beginning salvation and condemnation depended on the WORKS of man. Now this claim makes sense. The generation of Noah was condemned because of their EVIL WORKS. Sodomites were destroyed because they practiced INIQUITY. The Israelites were condemned because of their EVIL DEEDS. But those who obeyed God and practiced RIGHTEOUS WORKS were blessed and shall LIVE. God states:

“And I gave them my COMMANDMENTS and showed them my judgments, WHICH IF A MAN DO HE SHALL LIVE THROUGH THEM” [Ezekiel 20:11].Yahweh also stated: “But if a man be righteous and do justice and righteousness, and has not eaten the meat sacrificed to idols on the mountains, neither has lifted up his eyes to the idols and the altars of the house of Israel, neither has defiled his neighbour’s wife, nor has come near a menstruous woman, and has not oppressed any man, and has not harmed anyone, but has restored to the debtor his pledge; has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment; He has not lent money with usury, neither has loaned with discount, has withdrawn his hand from iniquity, and has executed true judgment between man and man; Has walked IN MY COMMANDMENTS, and HAS KEPT MY JUDGMENTS, and has done justice; he who does so is a RIGHTEOUS MAN and SHALL SURELY LIVE, says Yahweh Adonay. If he begets a son who is a wicked man, a shedder of blood, and he does any of these evil things, And eats the meat sacrificed to idols on the mountains, and defiles his neighbour’s wife, Oppresses the poor and needy, extorts from his neighbour, restores not the pledge to his owner, lifts up his eyes to the idols, commits abomination, Lends money with usury, and takes a discount; shall he then live? He shall not live: because he has done all these evil things; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him. But if he begets a son, who sees all the sins that his father had committed, and shall not do likewise...he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live...And if they should say, Why does not the son bear the sins of his father? say to them, Because the son has done that which is LAWFUL AND RIGHT and has KEPT ALL MY COMMANDMENTS, HE SHALL SURELY LIVE. The soul that sins, that soul shall die. The son shall not bear the sins of his father, neither shall the father bear the sins of his son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. If the wicked will turn from all his sins which he has committed, and KEEP ALL MY COMMANDMENTS, and DO THAT WHICH IS LAWFUL AND RIGHT, HE SHALL SURELY LIVE, he shall not die...But if the righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits iniquity and abominations like those that a sinner has done, all the righteousness that he has done shall not be remembered to him, but in the iniquity which he has committed and in the sins that he has sinned, in them shall he die...But if a wicked man turns away from the wickedness which he has committed and does that which is LAWFUL AND RIGHT, he shall SAVE HIS SOUL ALIVE. And if he watches and turns away from all the sins that he has committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die” [Ezekiel 18].

Did you get that? God plainly states that He shall judge each individual not on the basis of sacrificial atonement but rather on the basis of their WORKS. Those who obey the commands of God are RIGHTEOUS and shall LIVE. Those who live contrary to the laws of God are WICKED and shall DIE. It is as simple as that. Jesus stated that all those who performed INIQUITY [lawlessness], shall be lost even though they performed great many miracles in his name [Matthew 7:21-23]. In Revelation we are explicitly told that the DEAD - small and great - shall be judged ACCORDING TO THEIR WORKS [Revelation 20:13]. On the Judgment Day God will not ask you whether you accepted Jesus as your personal Saviour who allegedly died for your sins - but He will rather diligently examine your life in order to see what kind of works you have. He did the same with King Belshazzar. He placed all his works on the balance and found them wanting [Daniel 5:27]. Christianity insists that the only way to eternal life is THROUGH JESUS CHRIST.

That is, to be saved one must believe in the deity of Jesus and his sacrificial atonement. But there were billions who lived and never heard the name JESUS. Are these people bound for hellfire just because they were born in culture where Christian teachings were unknown? Christians do not like to dwell on this subject. They do not wish to confine all these people to hellfire but at the same time they cannot see how any of them can be saved without actually believing and accepting JESUS as THEIR PERSONAL SAVIOUR. Well, they cannot have it both ways. If salvation cannot be obtained without the sacrificial atonement of Jesus Christ - then all people who reject it must be lost forever. On the other hand, if even one person can be saved without the sacrificial atonement of Jesus - then salvation is based on WORKS. No wonder Christians prefer to avoid this subject. The Ebionites on the other hand did not believe in the sacrificial atonement. They believed that one was saved or lost on the basis of his status with God.

Those who practiced iniquity are lost, while those who obeyed the Law of God were saved. Now none of us perfectly observe the laws of God. At one time or another we do something that God classifies as sin. This is where repentance comes in. We confess our sins to God, pray for forgiveness and make every effort to do better. Forgiveness is not based on BLOOD SACRIFICE but rather on the LOVE and MERCY of God. Salvation is therefore dependent on the FAITH AND WORKS OF MAN and the LOVE AND MERCY of God. Our righteous works justify us before God while the evil works condemn us. Each confessed sin is blotted away by God because of His FATHERLY LOVE. Therefore it is apparent that the Ebionites were right in rejecting the Christian teaching on soteriology. They were right in not connecting Adam with the so called fall, sin and the curse. The Ebionites rejected the rite of sacrifice - whether human or animal. Christians accept both.

They believe in the Old Testament sacrificial cultus. Christians also believe and justify the HUMAN SACRIFICE in the Old Testament. In fact, their very salvation and VICARIOUS ATONEMENT is based on the HUMAN SACRIFICE. According to their own teaching Jesus was both FULLY GOD and FULLY MAN. Since their Jesus was also FULLY MAN and died as a SACRIFICE and since the only way to salvation is through his BLOOD it follows that Christian salvation is based on the HUMAN SACRIFICE which was so sternly forbade and abhorred by God. One wonders how is it possible for Christian Jesus to be both FULLY GOD and FULLY MAN. Can a person be both FULLY MAN and FULLY DOG? Or can a DOG be FULLY DOG and FULLY HORSE? But in Christian theology anything and everything is possible for those who have “faith.”
